Local & Federal Government Security Solutions
AMAG is a trusted authority for end users as they move to become FIPS compliant.
The September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon showed that our government buildings
and resources have become prime targets for terrorists. Governments must be able to secure themselves
and the facilities it uses to administrate resources and programs
to the citizenship.
AMAG’s Symmetry Security Management Systems are securing many hundreds of government facilities worldwide – over
100 in
the United States alone. Symmetry Security Management
Solutions have been selected
by a multitude of federal, state and local governments because it cost-effectively delivers the most reliable, flexible and technologically advanced converged security solution available. For example, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) chose Symmetry to secure the Pentagon because it offered unrestricted scalability and robust transactional
capabilities. The Department of the Interior
chose Symmetry because it offered advanced
smart card interoperability and pseudo-random, encrypted communications to eliminate
the possibility of someone hacking into their system via a standard Wiegand reader. Additionally, Symmetry Security Management
Systems are operating in battleships, embassies, military bases, marshals’
offices, medical centers, prisons, police forces and within a wide range of federal agencies.
Electronic security technology holds one of the keys to elevating physical and information
security while reducing operational costs and increasing efficiency. The Common
Access Card (CAC) program is increasing both information and physical security throughout the DoD´s massive
organization through the use of a single smart card that functions as a common credential
for computer access, facility access and a growing range of additional uses. AMAG
Technology developed one of the first readers designed solely to utilize the CAC card for physical access control. As the government transitions
to a FIPS 201 compliant system in numerous U.S. federal government locations, AMAG
is providing guidance and GSA approved equipment to meet requirements.
It´s not just the breadth of high-profile installations that makes AMAG Technology’
Symmetry
the brand of choice among government security executives. AMAG´s reputation as an
innovator of sophisticated government security systems such as Symmetry Homeland
is based on the fact that we have been developing solutions for government customers
for many years.
Government highlights:
AMAG has been involved with the US Government’s FIPS-201 program since its inception,
and has developed enhanced readers capable of reading PIV II cards as required by
FIPS 201. AMAG has various products on the GSA Approved Products List (APL).
AMAG has been deeply involved in the Smart Card Alliance PACS Council, SIA PIV Working
Group, and GSA Evaluated Products Testing Working Group. AMAG has provided valuable
input to several government agencies such as IAB, DMDC, PFPA, DOD, TSA, DOI and
others. We continue to help our customers understand and navigate the FIPS 201 requirements.
AMAG has been actively involved in US Government smart card programs for over 10
years – dating back to the US Navy’s first experiments with smart cards for physical
access control. We have continued to enhance our product line to meet ever-changing
requirements. This work was the basis for the Government Smart Card Interoperability
Specification which, in turn, was the basis for FIPS 201. AMAG has been involved
in FIPS 201 from the beginning.
AMAG has also deployed a number of TWIC compatible systems for commercial and Sea
Port facilities. TWIC is based on FIPS 201 as well, and thus AMAG leveraged the
experience we have with Federal customers to provide system upgrades to our commercial
and port customers to meet TWIC requirements.
Some specific examples:
-
AMAG developed one of the world’s first physical access control systems using smart
cards for the US Navy’s Multi-technology Automated
Reader Card (MARC) program testing at the
Pacific Command Complex in Hawaii. The successful system now supports hundreds of smart card readers.
- Symmetry secures
the Department of the Interior
